Creative Scrapbooking Brings Memories to Life

August 19th, 2007

Many of us are sentimental creatures by nature, keeping souvenirs of
events ranging from the oridinary to the extraordinary. We
painstakingly photograph Christmases and vacations and birthdays and
Saturdays to remember special times with those we love. Unfortunately
the photographs usually end up stuck in a drawer (or on the hard drive
to be digitally correct). A few really special memories may make it
into an album, but it is usually relegated to some out of the way spot
where it is seldom viewed as well. Creative scrapbooking is a way to
make more of your memories than a traditional photo album. A scrapbook
incorporates photos, momentos, and journaling to make memoir out of
memories.

Usually pictures and souvenirs collect in a designated location
until they pile up to the point of being moved to the attic or basement
where they are virtually forgotten. On the off chance someone digs them
out to view them, the experience could be as exciting as looking at
your great uncle’s slides from Germany…they’re nothing more than
random bits of memory that don’t tell anything. When photos are placed
in a scrapbook, memories come to life when the albums are viewed.
Pictures tell a story when they are combined with words and laid out in
an organized fashion. Well kept books such as these will become
heirlooms that preserve a family’s heritage for generations to come.

Scrapbooking is quite easy and accesible these days with craft
stores having entire sections dedicated to the hugely popular hobby.
Many stores also offer free or inexpensive classes to help the novice
know where to get started. But don’t be intimidated to be a
do-it-yourselfer. There are so many different kinds of scrapbooking
kits available to in stores and on-line to simplify the process.

Memories are valuable, and their preservation should be of utmost
importance. With creative scrapbooking, recalling fond memories can be almost as
real as the experiences themselves.
